Established in 1963 Woody’s is staffed by three knowledgeable anglers, John, Dave and John’s son Chris. All three have experience of Game, Sea and Coarse fishing in the U.K. Various members of Woody’s staff have visited Canada, Cuba, New Zealand, Australia, U.S.A and the Caribbean in order to extend their fishing knowledge and frequently have to remind themselves that “whilst it is a tough job someone has to do it!”
We are inventors and manufacturers of the “Polycone” and “Polybomb” swimfeeders plus “Shotmaster” split shot pliers and are generally able to repair rods and reels on the premises. We can build rods to customers’ own specifications if required.
Woody’s stock is extensive and we are main agents for ABU, Browning, Harrison Shimano and Shakespeare, plus Storm and Rapala baits. As a matter of interest we probably have the largest selection of spinners and plug baits in London for it is a style of fishing we particularly enjoy.
We stock live maggots and worms and also a range of frozen pike baits. In addition we stock Carp Boilies by Ritchworth, Groundbaits etc. by Sensas and Van den Eyne plus a good selection of baits by the Dynamite Bait Company.
For those who take an interest in vintage tackle John has an in-depth knowledge of this subject and is the author of the best selling book, “Hardy Brothers:the Masters The Men and their Reels”. John will sometimes fish with split cane rods and centre pin reels and invariably uses a 1930s Hardy Super Silex when fishing for Steelhead on Vancouver Island.
Woody’s always keep a good stock of re-furbished game and coarse rods made from split bamboo (split cane) so if you are looking for something specific it is worth a phone call.
Woodys now stock a good range of tackle designed for “Drop Shot” fishing. In addition to a large range of rubber baits and special drop shot weights we keep a stock of rods designed specifically for this style of fishing which can be so deadly for perch pike or chub. As one would expect the Shimano Beastmaster rods are the best and we stock the 2.4 metre rod casting 3.5 grm – 28 grm and priced at £104-99. The 2.7 metre Beastmaster casting 3.5 grm – 28 grm and the Mitchell 2.1 metre casting 3.5 grm – 28 grm which is priced at £69-99. Why not try drop shot fishing for your next trip? It is great fun and can be fantastically successfull.
Not many tackle shops stock a range of the longer telescopic rods. Some of the patterns available can be very expensive and not very good value for money. Woodys have searched for the best, combining lightweight carbon fibre, excellent action and importantly at a good price. Our range in stock encompasses 4.8metres to 7 metres and our prices start from £69-99.
Woody’s have a very large selection of telescopic rods to suit almost every occasion. They can be purchased individually or as our specially selected balanced sets. Many are short enough when closed to fit in a suitcase or rucksack and we even have some of the Shimano range which fold down to aproximately 35 cm!
Here we have just a small part of our stock of telescopic outfits. Whilst we would not recommend them to be used whilst fishing for White Marlin the correct rod will capture anything swimming in our waters.
Unlike so called internet shops Woody’s are are not afraid to show the large range of tackle that we actually stock in the shop. Many internet sights will not even show their premises and certainly do not want to let you know their address. You would be surprised just how little stock many of them keep. Essentially it is a case of give us your order and we will try and get it. Here we show part of our range of the world renowned Rapala baits. Many are new patterns and colours for the new season so why not come into our store and have a look?
So you want to go night fishing? Woody’s have a range of electric floats and “Starlight” indicators in store. There are many imitations of Starlights available on the market and most of them are very poor quality. Either they do not activate if they are a few months “old” or they give off a lower intensity of light. Woody’s only stock the best. Ask for Starlight by name.
When filling your reel with line do you find it difficult to ensure it is filled to the correct level?
Braided line is particularly difficult as it is so thin and difficult to judge how much is needed. Woody’s will wind the line to the correct level on your reel free of charge – you pay only for the line used.
